saturday morning throwback - king arthur and the knights of justice

king arthur and the knights of justice. 1992-93.

just got this shit. i didn’t even know they made a series 2. skimmed through it and it was horrible but the first season was badass…

basically merlin goes to the future to find heroes to save the past since king arthur and his knights where imprisoned in the cave of glass by morgana. merlin happens to find arthur king (wha-!?) who happens to be the quarterback of the knights football team in the present day. arthur and his ‘knights’ are transported back in time to camelot where they become the knights of justice to stop lord viper, morgana and the rest of the warlords from taking over camelot and then the world.

merlin says that in order for arthur and his knights to go back to their original time, they have to help save camelot, free the original king arthur, then find the 12 keys of truth to open a portal back to their own time.

“wait? so lemme get this straight? you brought us here against our own free will to save the past to solve YOUR problems!? afterwards, i gotta find 12 fucking keys to get back home myself!? didn’t you teleport us here? couldn’t you have just teleported to the cave of glass and free king arthur yourself!? merlin, you are a douche!”

but anyways…the show was short-lived but it had some great character designs and an awesome guitar intro!!!!

there was also a video game released on the SNES (that was ridiculously hard!) and some action figures too:

king arthur.

lancelot.

i doubt it will ever happen since this wasn’t as popular as TMNT, x-men or gargoyles but i’d like to see some new toys.

i found these designs from an artist who was doing a king arthur warhammer character. it resembles the king arthur cartoon design closely but i’m not sure if the artist was influenced or not. either way….is badass.

transformers universe bruticus and fansproject upgrade kit review pt. 2

here’s the second part of the bruticus review, which features the upgrade kit by fansproject. (if you missed the first part, click here.)

fansproject crossfire 02a - explorer.

fansproject crossfire 02b - munitioner.

explorer (aka blast-off) and munitioner (aka swindle) are from fansproject. if you haven’t seen some of their stuff, check out their website! i FINALLY got my order in from BBTS after months of waiting. initially i missed the first run when they where selling it and i had to pre-order both sets. i was really afraid that i wasn’t gonna get it since it took forever. but alas, i finally got them!!

(XF-01A)

(XF-01A/XF-02A)

articulation - both explorer and munitioner have excellent articulation so you can put them in variety of dynamic poses. the design concept from robot to alt. mode is amazing. elbow and heads are on ball joints, waist swivel and ankle swivel. this is a job well done! you lose none of the articulation in robot mode and its all hidden in alt. mode.

compared the original of the bruticus set, its no contest. im almost wishing fansproject did onslaught, vortex and brawl as well!!

(XF-02A)

(XF-02A)

paint - being from a third party company that’s not really officially licensed by hasbro/takara, this is a great figure. the paint apps are up to par, if not better. all the lines and paints are smooth and solid, mimicking the original 80s figures. this isn’t some knock off paint job.

(XF-02A)

detail and sculpt - again, the detail on these transformers are superb. fansproject really did an awesome job in capturing and maintaining the original design of their 80s counterparts. they pretty much improved on the articulation, transformation and overall design. you can see that the designers at fansproject take pride in their work, hence the name!

(XF-02A)

(XF-02A)

accessories - both sets have TONS of accessories that when not in use in the combiner mode, they are upgraded weapons to the combaticons themselves. both Crossfire Sets as well as the Universe Bruticus Boxed Set to create the upgraded Bruticus figure.

(XF-01A)

  • two part shotgun (brawl and vortex)
  • foot (onslaught)
  • shoulder connectors (vortex)
  • one large gun (onslaught)
  • sword (explorer’s axe)

(XF-02A)

  • two part shotgun (brawl and vortex)
  • forearms (vortex)
  • bruticus head (onslaught)
  • crotch armor (onslaught)
  • sniper rifle (onslaught)
  • munitioner’s gun (munitioner)

so when you have the tf universe bruticus set and both fansproject sets, you get this:

you pretty much replace the swindle and blast-off. those aren’t necessary anymore for the upgrade. blast-off is the new arm, while swindle is the new left leg!

sporting an improved headsculpt, bruticus lives up to his namesake!

as you can see, bruticus has tons of weaponry!!

price - i paid $48.99 for each set. plus the tf universe set. so i paid close to $160 for him! i feel like he’s def. worth it. the tf universe set is hard to find, i see them pop up on ebay now and then. they go for as much as 3x the original price.

i just checked BBTS to see if they had more fansproject crossfire sets, but they seem to only have the explorer set. they don’t seem to be taking anymore pre-orders so im gonna assume they aren’t getting anymore. so finding the upgrade kit(s) will be difficult.

overall, im glad i got these sets. bruticus is one of my favorite combiners when i was young so i getting this was worth every penny. fansproject kept the design the same while improving the existing figures and improving the articulation and overall look of bruticus’ gestalt form!!

this is my first fansproject figure and i don’t think it’ll be my last! the parts are sturdy and well designed. i wish hasbro/takara hired these guys to do their tranformers from now on! its too bad these aren’t licensed cuz it wouldn’t be so damn expensive! i missed out on city commander (ultra magnus upgrade) and warbot defender (springer), who are quite expensive now! but i can’t wait to see what else they’re planning.

so overall with the upgrade kit, bruticus with fansproject upgrade: A+

Video

inhumanoids…another great cartoon of the 80s!!!!

this was a 13 episode series that came out in 1986. 2 dvds where re-released on dvd which episodes 1-4 became the miniseries. later, episodes 5-13 were released on a second volume and can only be found online.

basically the story is about 4 members of the earth corps: auger, liquidator, dr. bright and herc armstrong. each of these scientists have environmental suits that allow them to travel in the depths of the earth and even under water. the suits where alot cooler when i was younger…now not so good. lol.

anywoo….the members of the earth corps join the mutores (the elemental good guys) who consist of the redwoods (tree like beings), the granites (under ground rock people) and magnakor (a subterranean monster who can split into 2 different polarized beings.) to battle the evil humanoids: tendril (some big ass plant monster), d’compose (another giant monster with a skeleton head) and their leader metlar. (demon looking monster who spits/throws lava from his mouth.)

for its time….it was a great show!! i wish they would have made more episodes. but i do remember the figures. i still have all four members of the earth corps and magnakor!! (you can find incomplete figs aplenty on ebay but most of them don’t have their helmets and accessories.)

along with earth corps and magnakor they also released the redwoods, granites and all 3 of the inhumanoids. They also released 2 vehicles for earth corps: the terrascout and trappeur.

it be really nice if they brought the franchise back…

i would really like to have some updated toys. the old figures where ahead of its time and where already 6 inch scale. just update the sculpt and articulation and they would fit well in the marvel/dcuc figure scale.

so c’mon hasbro or mattel, pick up the rights and lets see some toys!!!!
